Sunquest Vacations
What happened to Sunquest Vacations?
Sunquest was one of Canada's oldest sun-holiday tour operators. It was founded in 1972 and passed through several owners: North American Leisure Group, then MyTravel, then Thomas Cook. In 2013, Red Label Vacations (the company behind redtag.ca) bought Thomas Cook's North American business, including Sunquest, and renamed it TravelBrands. Japan's H.I.S. Group bought Red Label in 2019.
Sunquest no longer runs as a separate brand you can book directly. The old sunquest.ca address now forwards to redtag.ca. We could find no current, standalone Sunquest vacation program. Sunquest is not connected to Sunwing or WestJet.
What to book instead
Many travellers chose Sunquest for affordable resort weeks, with meals and activities included, in Mexico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. The same kind of trip is now sold mainly by:
- Sunwing Vacations and WestJet Vacations, both part of WestJet's vacation group
- Air Canada Vacations, which earns and redeems Aeroplan points
- Transat, strong out of Quebec and Ontario
Booking tips
- Check old credits. If you still hold an old Sunquest booking reference or credit, contact TravelBrands directly. Don't assume it carries over to another operator.
- Compare the same resort across operators. One resort is often sold by two or three operators with different flight times and baggage rules. Ask us to price it side by side.
- Choose a convenient gateway. From Vancouver Island, a package that starts in Victoria or Vancouver can save you a connection.
