China Tours
China tours from Canada: what's new in 2026
This page covers guided tours and custom itineraries in mainland China. Travel to China has become simpler for Canadians in 2026. Since February 17, 2026, Canadian passport holders can enter China without a visa for up to 30 days, for tourism, business, family visits or transit. The policy currently runs until December 31, 2026, so check that it's still in place if you are travelling in 2027.
Popular itineraries
- The classic route: Beijing (the Great Wall and Forbidden City), Xi'an (the Terracotta Warriors) and Shanghai, often connected by high-speed train
- Scenery: Guilin and Yangshuo, the Yellow Mountains (Huangshan), or a Yangtze River cruise through the Three Gorges
- Extensions: Hangzhou, Suzhou or Hong Kong
From BC, Vancouver is the natural departure point for flights across the Pacific.
Who it suits
First-time visitors who want a guide to handle language and logistics, and repeat visitors who want a private itinerary built around particular regions.
Booking tips
- Read the latest travel advice. The Government of Canada currently advises a high degree of caution in China. It also notes that China doesn't recognize dual citizenship, so dual citizens should read that section carefully.
- Compare what's included. Tour prices vary a lot depending on whether the price includes international flights, internal flights or trains, entrance fees and shopping stops.
- Choose the season. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable times to go. Avoid Chinese national holidays, when crowds and prices peak.
