Carry On Baggage

WestJet will allow you to take 2 carry-ons free of charge. They require the baggage to be no bigger than 55 cm x 23 cm x 40 cm to fit in the overhead or go under the seats. There is a device at each airport you can use to measure your baggage if necessary. Also make sure if you have any small liquids in your carry-on, to put them in a clear zip-lock bag.

Checked Baggage

WestJet charges between $25 per checked bag for econo fares. If it’s over-sized or overweight there will be an additional $75 charge. Anything over 23 kg (50 lbs.) is considered over weight, 158cm-200cm, over-sized. Wheel chairs, certain infant equipment, and one bag of humanitarian aid are free of charge.

WestJet has a lot of ways to check in for your flight.  Your options are online, via your mobile device, at the airport kiosks, or at the counter. WestJet requests that you check in at least 45 minutes prior to your departure. You’ll want to make sure you have enough time to get through security, check-in, baggage, and get to your gate.

Online Check-in:WestJet online check-in saves you time by allowing you to check-in up to 24 hours prior to your departure time. To check-in online for your flights, visit the WestJet online check-in page. After you check-in for your flight, you can print out your boarding pass to skip the lines and go directly to the airport security gates. If you need to check-in your baggage be sure to stop by the ticketing counter to drop your luggage off.


Kiosk Check-in:Want to skip the lines on a busy day? WestJet offers an electronic kiosk check-in program for passengers. Usually, these kiosks contain the WestJet logo on them and are close to the Ticket counter. This program is available at over 20 of the major airports including Las Vegas, Orlando, Edmonton and Toronto.

Seating Options

WestJet seats have a distance of 32-34 inches between all seats. You can select your seating preferences online two or more hours before the departure of your flight. For WestJet charter flights, seat selection can only be done at the airport as travel documents need to be checked and information collected by their attendants.

They also accept pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy, but WestJet will require a physician’s note if you are over 32 weeks.

Flights With Pets

WestJet allows you to take your pet with you, as either carry-on or as checked baggage, both at an additional cost of $50. If you take them as carry-on they MUST stay in their kennel. They requests that you let them know that you’ll be bringing your pet within 48 hours from your flight. There is a limit of how many pets can go on a flight, so ensure you plan your arrangements well in advance if you wish to travel with your pet!
